The Swiss telemedicine provider Medgate was guided on its way into the German market

Challenge

Medgate is a Swiss telemedicine provider that has been successfully offering telemedicine for 21 years. When the ban on remote treatment was lifted in Germany in 2018, Medgate sought to enter the German market. However, the legal framework did not allow the business model to be scaled up easily, and there were also many reservations about telemedicine. How could market entry still succeed?

Solution

In the complex German legal framework, opportunities were found to place Medgate on the market. Telemedical services can be reimbursed by private health insurance companies as well as by the ADAC.

Benefit

Company: The German market has been developed, Medgate is an established brand on the market that has a good reputation with health insurers, companies and politicians.

Patient: Simple, secure and fast access to telemedical services with trained doctors and without long distances.

Contribution of D+C

A detailed legal analysis was carried out and market entry opportunities were identified. The latter were then strategically developed and successful negotiations were conducted with health insurance companies and the ADAC. D+C played an active role in shaping the political discussion.
