New ways for digital health applications in the German health care system (DVG)

6. Jun. 2019

How can manufacturers of digital healthcare applications gain a competitive edge and create benefit for patients?

In mid-June, Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn presented his draft law for the "Digital Health Care Act (Digitale Versorgung Gesetz – DVG)". By German standards, it contains almost spectacular new regulations, as it provides, among other things, for insured persons to be entitled to digital health applications. These can soon be prescribed by doctors and should gain access to the primary healthcare market. In addition, health insurers will be able to participate in the development of digital health applications as venture capitalists and thus assume a stronger role as drivers and designers of innovative healthcare.

The Digital Health Care Act thus opens up fascinating new opportunities for stakeholders in the healthcare sector. But what does the manufacturer have to consider regarding existing products, the development and approval of a digital health application in order to gain a competitive advantage? How does reimbursement work? And what might a possible cooperation between health insurance company and manufacturer look like?

Our D+C White Paper navigates you through the potential future regulations and provides manufacturers of digital health care applications with a roadmap of concrete to-dos that need to be considered in order to successfully bring digital health care applications into the primary healthcare market.
